Oriental Cockroach

Cockroache OrientalThe oriental cockroach is a pest in homes and buildings in the summer months, oriental cockroaches may move outdoors where they may venture into neighbouring buildings. During the colder months, they reinvade homes, establishing themselves in basements and crawl spaces and wall cavities.

Habitat This cockroach commonly inhabits sewers and storm culverts and will enter buildings through floor drains. It will also live outdoors in firewood, leaf litter, sheds, dog houses, and similar locations. Indoors, the basement, crawl space, and occasionally the attic will be the primary harbourage for this pest.


German Cockroach

Cockroache GermanAdults are about 1/2 - 5/8 inch in length. The colour varies from light brown to tan, except for 2 dark streaks on the shield-like segment behind the head.

They prefer infesting the kitchen and bathroom, but will live anywhere that is heated, has food, water and harbourage. They are active at night, Cockroaches will feed on all types of human food, pet food, soap, glue, etc.The female carries her egg capsule, which contains 30 - 40 eggs, partially within her abdomen, until 1 - 2 days before hatching. She will deposit them in a safe and sheltered area.

From egg to adult takes an average of 103 days.


American cockroach

Cockroache AmericanThe American cockroach is the largest house-infesting species, about 1 1/2 inches long. Reddish-brown wings with light markings on thorax. Very aggressive. Prefer warm, damp areas, more likely to be seen in daytime and outdoors than other species. Flies more readily than other species. Scavengers; eat almost anything. Commonly found in food preparation areas.

Female needs to mate only once to produce many egg capsules; each capsule contains an average of 13 eggs; nymphs moult 13 times, in about 600 days, before reaching maturity; can live up to 15 months.

Have shown a marked attraction to alcoholic beverages, especially beer; also known as the water bug.
